The final of the 1st Loufeng Sub-district Gorgon Fruit Cooking Contest took place in SIP's Loufeng Sub-district on Sept 22 when six families competed to make dishes using Nandang gorgon fruit, a nutritious and tonic local specialty.
Growing gorgon fruit has become part of the sub-district's culture and a main source of income for over 900 local households. The sub-district authorities hope the cooking contest along with an earlier gorgon fruit peeling contest can help disseminate the culture and make the gorgon fruit grown in the area more popular.
In the competition, each of the families was required to finish a dish within 30 minutes by steaming, frying, stewing or any other cooking methods. The jurors gave scores to the dishes based on their look, aroma and taste, and then announced the winners of the top three places.
